In September, we've been celebrating dual birthday dinners for Mrs. Pattis Magician and Ms. Pastry Chef's birthdays. I always tell people that they shouldn't have to cook for themselves for their own birthdays. So when I joined this family, I offered to cook for them for their birthdays. And what have they picked year after year? Chinese food. And who am I to say no?
So feast your eyes on the meal that I gave them this year. To see these dishes more up close and personal, keep reading.

Fung Tu
A while ago, I suggested to The Feisty Foodie and Dessert Zombie that I wanted to try Fung Tu. Their menu looked interesting and the chef is from Per Se. Yes, I wanted to see a modern take on Chinese food. Asian food is commonly regarded as really affordable comfort food. But why can't it be more? Why can't it be elevated into something that's more fancy using quality ingredients and showcasing classic French techniques. I went to Fung Tu with that in mind.
Dessert Zombie, Mr. M&P, and I arrived on time for our reservation. While we waited for FF to arrive, we snacked on a couple of the appetizers like the Smoked and Fried Dates with duck ($7). I enjoyed these. The sweet, salty mixture of the dates and duck together. I also enjoyed the softness of the date compared to the crispness of the batter on the outside.

Big Wong
This place just never gets old for me. Just a quickie post and a picture of what we usually order. The beef ho fun, soy sauce chicken leg and roast pork, and special congee (ground pork and seafood), and savory cruller for dipping.
I am home.

Kung Fu Little Steamed Buns
Awhile ago, my good friend and I went out to lunch. He's a big fan of Asian cuisine so I suggested we try out Kung Fu Little Steamed Buns which opened not too far away from the office. We left a bit early in hopes of scoring a table. And we were happy that we did. Shortly after we sat down, the line was long with people waiting outside.
As true to any "authentic" Asian restaurant, service to brisk and to the point. You won't have people asking you how you are today. Instead, they want your order and will serve you right away. Hey, I wanted to get in and out as quickly as possible too. This wasn't a day to spend 2 hours at leisurely lunch.
So I ordered a bowl of the house special ramen ($11.50) to start. It's not Japanese ramen but instead a Chinese version of noodles in soup which came with shrimp, beef, egg, and bok choy. The bowl is regular sized and warmed me. I was happy with this simple dish.

Lunch Week 20: Pork Chop and Pickled Mustard Greens Over Rice
So every Sunday, I head over to the kitchen to whip up a big batch of food for lunch the next week. Yes, I brown bag. And I almost always do it every week unless I become too busy to even buy cold cuts from the deli. I do it for several reasons being health, finance, and laziness. Now, you may think that spending hours on a day off to prep and cook five meals at once is hardly lazy. But let me remind you, I hate it when the time comes to decide what to eat for lunch every day. I work in Midtown so the choices are endless. My problem, the more choices, the harder it is for me. So it's much easier for me to have my lunch ready and already decided.
So my lunch for the week: Pork Chop and Pickled Mustard Greens Over Rice
Again, pressed for time this week. But I didn't want to go boring or low on flavor either. So I looked around my pantry and my freezer and came up with an idea. A hodge podge of ingredients over rice.
